The read that morning
The biggest move on the tape is oil: WTI added +3.40% to 104.84 in a single session, lifting its five-day run to +12.69%. That same push shows up at the asset-class level, where energy reads +1.12 — the strongest bucket on the board — while bonds read -1.25 at the opposite end. Capital rotating out of fixed income and into crude is the plumbing behind today's standout session.
In equities, the backdrop is quieter and weaker. The S&P closed at 760.88, down 0.45% on the day and -1.21% over the week; the QQQ fell to 709.18, -0.80% on the session and -1.36% over five days. Two facts coexist: leadership in the index tilts to CRM, with REMX lagging, and the broad market is grinding lower. One isn't proved to cause the other — it just looks that way today.
Crypto attention is loudest where trading volume is hottest: Polygon +14.2% over a week, Base +13.9%, Robinhood Chain +12%. Locked capital grows fastest on Robinhood Chain, Anubis and X Layer. Capital, by contrast, is rotating from BTC toward large-cap alts, with ETH/BTC rising and SOL outperforming — two distinct axes.
On metals, the USDJPY setup flags a buy stop at 156.31, about 0.6% above the pair, invalid at 148.70; the gold sell stop sits at 4,262.0, roughly 1.5% below spot 4,325.2, invalid at 4,548.3. Speculators are crowded — gold 52-week index 69, yen 72 — which conditions both fades. Daily cycle-low attention closes today on EURUSD and NZDUSD; USDCAD runs through 2026-09-18 and CHFJPY through 2026-09-22.
