My gold short was stopped out, and the reason I gave was the wrong one
Here is a belief I held and then lost, in public, to the market. I shorted gold at 4365 after it broke below a spike low on 13 August, with a stop at 4407. The market went up through that stop and took me out for a loss of 1.19 times my risk. The stop did exactly what it was built to do.
What I got wrong was the thesis. I read a single broken low as the start of a trend. The breakdown was real, but it was not enough to carry a trend, and I did not wait for confirmation that it would hold.
